5 Tips to go from Surviving to Thriving in Motherhood

Motherhood is beautiful, but let’s be real—it’s also exhausting. I always dreamed of being a mom, but after having three kids back-to-back, I found myself completely drained. I gave everything to my little ones, yet I felt lost, unfulfilled, and guilty for even thinking about wanting more for myself.

No one tells you how isolating motherhood can feel, even when you’re surrounded by the little humans you love most. I went from being a confident, driven woman to someone who barely recognized herself. My patience was gone, my energy was non-existent, and I felt like I was just going through the motions. I kept telling myself, this is just a phase, but deep down, I knew something had to change.

After hitting a breaking point, I decided to take a deep look at what I was missing and slowly began making changes—small ones at first, but ones that made a huge difference. Over time, I went from just surviving each day to truly thrivingin motherhood. If you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or like you’ve lost yourself, these five tips might be exactly what you need.

1. Nourish Your Mind, Body & Soul

I always thought I was eating "pretty healthy," but I started realizing my body was craving something deeper. Holistic nourishment isn’t just about food—it’s about feeding your entire being. I started focusing on whole, healing foods, movement that felt good, and most importantly, practices that nurtured my soul. Once I did, I noticed a massive shift in my energy, mood, and overall well-being.

Beyond food and exercise, I made space for soul nourishment. I started meditating  again—focusing on gratitude, and my intentions for the day. I committed to reading or listening to something inspiring every morning, whether it was a chapter from a book or a short podcast episode. And perhaps most importantly, I carved out little moments of stillness throughout my day—whether it was stepping outside to take deep breaths in the sun or pausing to drink my coffee without scrolling on my phone.

At first, these changes felt small, but over time, they completely transformed how I felt. My energy returned, my anxiety lessened, and for the first time in years, I felt nourished in every sense of the word.

2. Do Something That Scares You

One of the biggest things that helped me get out of my rut was pushing myself out of my comfort zone. When we become moms, it’s easy to fall into routines that feel safe—but sometimes, safe also means stagnant. I had spent years avoiding anything that felt “too big” or “too hard” because I was afraid of failing or because I didn’t think I had the energy for it.

But here’s what I learned: growth doesn’t happen in comfort.

I started challenging myself in small ways—taking a new fitness class, joining a mom group (even though I was nervous about meeting new people) and launching a side project(see related article below on my Amazon side gig). Each time I faced a fear, I gained a little more of myself back. That confidence, that excitement, that fire—it started returning.

So ask yourself: What’s one thing you’ve been putting off because it scares you? Maybe it’s going after a dream, signing up for that class, applying for that job, or simply carving out time for yourself without guilt. Whatever it is, do it. You’ll be amazed at how it changes you.

3. Create a Simple Morning Ritual

Mornings used to feel chaotic—kids needing me the second I opened my eyes, leaving me feeling depleted before the day even started. But when I began waking up just a little earlier, even if it was just an extra 10 minutes to myself, everything changed. I used this time for things that filled me up—listening to a podcast, journaling, stretching, running/walking outside or simply enjoying my coffee in peace. Those few moments of stillness set the tone for a calmer, more intentional day.

At first, the thought of waking up any earlier felt impossible. I was already exhausted, running on broken sleep, and the idea of sacrificing even a few extra minutes in bed felt like torture. But I started small—just setting my alarm 10 minutes earlier than usual. Instead of scrolling my phone first thing, I made a habit of stepping outside, taking a few deep breaths, and drinking a big glass of lemon water. This tiny shift gave me a sense of control over my morning before the chaos of the day kicked in.

As I got used to this, I started adding little rituals that made me feel good. Some mornings, I’d stretch or do a few minutes of movement. Other mornings, I’d sip my coffee while practicing gratitude. On days I needed extra motivation, I’d put on a short podcast or an audiobook that uplifted me.

One of the biggest game-changers? Getting dressed and putting myself together—even if I had nowhere to go. I used to stay in pajamas or throw on whatever was lying around, but I realized that taking just five minutes to wash my face, put on a cozy outfit, and brush my hair gave me a fresh energy boost. It helped me show up as my best self rather than just surviving through the day.

I didn’t have to overhaul my entire routine overnight. I just started making small, intentional choices in the morning that helped me feel centered instead of instantly overwhelmed. And once I experienced the difference, I never looked back.

4. Set Yourself Up for Success

I realized that I wasn’t just exhausted because of motherhood—I was exhausted because I had no systems in place. I started simplifying my days, planning easy nourishing meals, setting boundaries around my time, and learning to ask for help (even though it was hard at first). These small but powerful changes gave me back a sense of control and made daily life feel so much lighter.

One of the biggest game-changers was meal planning in a way that actually worked for me. Instead of overcomplicating things with elaborate recipes, I created a simple rotation of nourishing meals that were easy to throw together. I prepped what I could ahead of time—washing and chopping veggies, making overnight oats, or cooking a batch of quinoa or shredded chicken to use throughout the week. Having go-to meals eliminated the daily stress of what’s for dinner? and kept me from reaching for convenience foods that made me feel sluggish.

Another shift? Creating mini systems for my daily routines. I started laying out my clothes the night before, prepping school bags ahead of time, and keeping a running grocery list so I wasn’t scrambling at the last minute. I even started setting a timer for short 15-minute tidying sessions throughout the day instead of letting messes pile up and overwhelm me.

Once I put these small but powerful systems in place, I noticed a huge difference in how I felt. I wasn’t constantly in reactive mode—I was moving through my days with more ease and actually enjoying motherhood again.

5. Find Game-Changing Tools & Resources

Along the way, I discovered certain things that truly helped me thrive—whether it was supplements that supported my energy, books that shifted my mindset, or products that made my daily routine easier. Finding what works for you can be a game-changer in reclaiming your joy and well-being.

One of the biggest game-changers for me was finding supplements that actually supported my energy. After struggling with constant fatigue, I did some research and started taking a high-quality magnesium supplement to help with stress and sleep, along with adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha to support my nervous system. Within a few weeks, I noticed a huge difference—I felt more balanced, my sleep improved, and I wasn’t running on empty by midday.

Another tool that changed everything? Mindset-shifting books and podcasts. I made it a habit to listen to an audiobook or podcast while making breakfast or driving, and it completely reframed the way I saw motherhood and personal growth. Some books helped me understand how to manage stress better, while others reminded me that I wasn’t alone in this journey. Instead of scrolling social media at night, I started reading 10 pages of a personal development book before bed, and it quickly became one of my favorite rituals.

I also invested in small but powerful products that made my days easier—things like a meal planner whiteboard on my fridge, a timer to remind me to take breaks and stretch, and even a high-quality water bottle that kept me hydrated throughout the day. These little things may seem minor, but they helped me stay more organized, mindful, and in tune with my needs.

The key was figuring out what actually helped me feel better, not just what worked for someone else. By finding the right tools that supported my mental, physical, and emotional health, I finally started feeling like myself again—and thriving in motherhood felt more possible than ever.
